With a background in art and cultural studies, Cherish shares her love of art making with others in a therapeutic environment that fosters connection, mindfulness and creative coping skills. She works with children and youth dealing with issues including; anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, social skills, behavioural awareness and modification. In her work with Vancouver Coastal Health as an Art Therapist for youth dealing with mental health and substance abuse, she uses a trauma informed approach to encourage self healing and reparation.
Cherish uses the creative process to help others learn to express themselves artistically. This type of expression can help people to resolve issues, develop self-awareness and manage their behaviours and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem.
Art therapy is a tool therapists use to help patients interpret, express, and resolve their emotions and thoughts. Patients work with an art therapist to explore their emotions, understand conflicts or feelings that are causing them distress, and use art to help them find resolutions to those issues.
