Experiencing trauma can have a significant impact on our mental and physical well-being. It can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and in pain. Simply telling our story may not always be enough to alleviate these feelings, and we may instead feel hopeless and frustrated. Even if we manage to stay stable for years, our body’s coping mechanisms may eventually fail us. Unfortunately, many do not fully understand the effects of trauma, and they may offer well-intentioned but ultimately unhelpful advice and support. After working with trauma for 15 years, I have found that the “new” strategies are actually rooted in ancient wisdom.
